One of the typical questions we get is about why we decided to focus on creating a Solo RPG instead of a Group based RPG. We figured that would be a great place to start.

Let’s begin by dispelling the typical thoughts of “You probably don’t have friends” or “You were an only child and don’t know how to play well with others” or “You probably look like Qusai Modo … or worse.”  I would like to apologize to Qusai and his family sometimes people don’t think when they speak. We think you are beautiful just the way you are!

Ok so Why a Solo RPG? Well, it is pretty simple we all play games (D&D and Boardgames) with our groups but can’t always find time to get together. Life is a complex balancing act of work, family, hobbies, and friends and things don’t line up perfectly all the time.

There have been many times where I find myself with an hour or two to spare but no time to coordinate a group of players. So I turn to whipping out something solo …  like a board game (which takes to long to set up and tear down) or a video game (which I don’t typically get invested in the characters I play). Both are extremely enjoyable but we felt there should be a more immersive alternative.

A different approach to Solo…

Before even thinking about the design principals we wanted for the game, we reviewed our past experiences with games like Four Against the Darkness, D100, and the adventure books such as “The Warlock of Firtop Moutain”. You should definitely check those out as each of those are fun and engaging in different ways.

While all those examples were fun to play we felt there needed to be a more engaging system that truly gets you into the character and provides a balance of Story and tactical gameplay. All without having to roll on endless tables to randomly generate an encounter or turn hundreds of pages back and forth.

So we decided our system needed to be App based so that the GM would be the app and the player could focus on his/her character and the decisions to be made to survive and progress. Once we outlined the concept and the various systems we needed to develop … we stepped back and realized we have something special here and can’t wait to show it to the RPG community.

Our journey has and continues to be one of its ups and down and of meeting and engaging a bunch of interesting people along the way. As we continue on this adventure we hope you will join us and share in this wonder-filled thing called life!

Continue to watch for more articles as we start to discuss the details of how the Labyrinths and Legends Solo RPG works and all the wonderous systems that drive an immersive experience.

Until next time … Keep on Rolling!
